Date: Monday 31 August - Saturday 05 September 2026
Location: MyCaffé, 6 Rue de la Fonte, Belval
All summer the shutter stayed down on Saturdays. On 5 September it goes back up.
That same day, a few minutes from here, the twentieth Escher Kulturlaf sets off from Avenue de la Fonte. We are at 6 Rue de la Fonte. Same quarter, same postcode. The timing could not be better if we had chosen it.
So this week of Suggestioni does not stop on Friday evening like the others. It runs through to Saturday.
Fusilli alla Diavola · 20,30 € Alla diavola. (1.3.7)
Orecchiette con Cime di Rapa · 20,80 € Turnip tops and cherry tomatoes. (1)
Risotto al Manzo Halal · 21,80 € Halal beef, broccoli and Primo Sale. (7)
Caramella all’Orata · 22,90 € Sea bream, carrot cream, fried artichokes and lemon breadcrumbs. (1.3.4)
Puccia al Polipo · 23,80 € Grilled octopus tentacles, spinach, stracciatella and cherry tomatoes. (1.7.14)
Tagliata di Pollo · 24,90 € Halal chicken fillet, sun-dried tomatoes, spinach salad and homemade yoghurt sauce. (7)
Caramella is named for its shape. Pasta pinched at both ends, like a sweet twisted in its wrapper. This week’s is filled with sea bream and set on a carrot cream.
Then there are the orecchiette with cime di rapa. In Bari that is not a dish, it is the dish. Two ingredients, no more, and nobody down there has ever wanted a third. We are not going to be the ones to start.
The Kulturlaf route runs past the blast furnaces.
Those furnaces are the reason everyone came to the Minett in the first place. The Germans, then the Italians, then the Portuguese from the sixties on. In Dudelange, just next door, there is still a quarter called Italie.
On Saturday evening people will run past those chimneys with musicians at the roadside. And a few minutes away, in an Italian kitchen in Belval, someone will be making pasta. It holds together rather well.
17:15, a thousand metres for the children, the Mini-Kulturlaf.
18:00, the half marathon, the 10 miles and the 10 km.
18:15, the 5 km, on your own or in teams of three who start and finish together.
Prize giving around 20:15, then the concerts from 20:30.
An evening race, music the whole way round, concerts and people still there long after. In Italy we would call that a sagra.
Saturdays start again on 5 September, and we are not doing it by halves. That day we are open from 9:00 to midnight. The restaurant serves at lunch and in the evening, with the same six Suggestioni as the rest of the week.
And from 16:00 there is a stand outside, in front of the door. Panzerotti at 5 €, or 6 € with cooked ham. (1.7)
A panzerotto is eaten standing up, with one hand. Which is exactly right on an evening when nobody sits down.
Eat in or takeaway, Monday to Friday from 6:30 and Saturday from 9:00. The numbers refer to allergens, the full list is on mycaffe.lu. MyCaffé, 6 Rue de la Fonte, Belval.
And to everyone running on Saturday: in bocca al lupo.
